END OF THE EVIL EMPIRE
At The 10:00am - 3:00pm LUNCH WAS INCLUDED WITH ALL PAID ENTRIES |
In celebration of the End of the Evil Empire, the fall of the Soviet Union, the Arms Collectors Club conducted our annual shoot featuring weapons prevalent during the period of Soviet Influence. Arms of the period range from the bolt action Mosin-Nagants of 1891, 1930, 1944 and others to modern Kalishnikov type semi-auto rifles |

In spite of the great weather, we only had 10 participants at the shoot.
We needed 15 participants to break even. However the left-over Kielbasi, Rolls and
soda can be used at our next shoot.
One participant is joing the club and gave me his check and application. Four shooters under the age of 30 showed up and are interested in more. We invited them to the seminar and they were interested. Several events were scheduled that featured the arms of specific eras in Soviet History. The guns were limited to curios and relics of the period with original iron sights. Each contest was a two minute timed fire event requiring ten shots at 50 yards except for the the sniper match, which required a military issue sniper rifle and scope and was limited to a single shot at 100 yards. Only one event went unfilled this year- Young Pioneer Instructor. We did however, have a Young Pioneer entrant, and an entrant for the LYUDMILA PAVLICHENKO Trophy.
A new match was added this year: "Secret Police" featuring Soviet Bloc
Handguns.
We had cool, clear, but breezey shooting conditions down on the range. The Shooting Line was managed by Stan Gurski. Score keeper was our secretary, Tom Plante, and our chef-du-jour for this shoot was Our Chef, Joe Lutz, who provided an excellent lunch of Kielbasa, and pierogies.
The old silohuette targets were used this year. The targets have no "X" ring and were scored 2-5. Several targets tied, but we awarded the tighter groups the win. In one contest, the groups were so equal, we issued trophies to both shooters. We used our "Official NJACC Sniper Target" with the 3/8" X Ring for the Sniper Match. The ShootOnce again, we had a couple of returning champions. Paul Murphy edged out
Russ Pastina and Troy Iloski to win
Troy Iloski and Russ Pastina tied in Match #4: SIMONOV CARBINE. A "chip off the old block", Brian Iloski, shot well with his SKS to win the trophy in Match #9- "YOUNG PIONEER." Perrennial sharp-shooter, Andy Gisondi scored an "X" to capture Match #8 -SOVIET SNIPER.
Herb Kuehne and Jeff Cohen entered Match #3-TOKAREV RIFLE Match.
We had two shooters for the Match #7 - KALISHNIKOV. Andy Gisondi, and Amanda McFree. New-comer George Hatch entered several events and won Match #11: SECRET POLICE.
